HI all,

I've got lots of old movies on VHS, that I would like to transfer onto my
new G4 and burn on DVD, but how do I do that? What cables do I need to hook
up the VCR to the computer? Also, what software's required (I've got Toast
Titanium, but is that any help). Anyone know a good book or website for
this info?

Thanks for your help!

Monique

(Oh, my machine's a G4 1.25ghz Quicksilver dual boot system with 1.25GB RAM)

Also, on a similar note, does anyone know if you can buy a cable television
(CATV) tuner that allows -- via PCI card of a port -- the computer to tape
the signal directly to the HD or DVD?

The way I went about capturing video from VHS -> my computer was through a device called a Dazzle* DV-Bridge. It converts a multitude of signals from analog to digital formats from one to the other. It connects to your Mac (no software drivers needed) via a Firewire cable and the results are staggering. If you can tune into some of these computer self help shows like the "Screensavers", you will likely hear that the challenging thing is to be able to compress the data into an Mpeg format that will fit all the data onto your DVD-R's. I've never used Toast Titanium, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it might do the trick for you.

I am in the process of acquiring Final Cut Pro, and am hopeful that I will be able to manipulate the data to suit my needs as they arise.
