Hey listers,

I just upgrade my machine to a G4/500 ZIF from XLR8. I also installed the
Jag version of their cache control software. Now they advertise their G4
ZIFs as having a backside cache. They list their G4 ZIF as follows : G4/500
ZIF with 1MB/250MHz backside cache.

Is this backside cache the same as the L2 cache?

The reason I'm asking is that system profiler shows the L2 cache at 0K (I'm
guessing this means it's either not enabled or not present). The XLR8 Mach
Speed Control software shows Backside Cache at 1MB running at 250MHz.

Thanks in advance!

Yes these are the same in all cases I have seen. I have a virtually identical G4 (Sonnet Encore ZIF) in my B&W Powermac and it reports as L2 in some apps and backside in others.

I don't know if anyone has any experiences regarding L2 cache and OS X. I use Powerlogix CPU Director 1.3F on my upgraded machines to ensure it is enabled at startup, however i was under the impression this was not necessary with G4s. I know System Profiler reads my cache OK regardless, but it can't tell what CPU I have (even thought the 'About this Mac...' panel clearly shows it's a G4).
