I've been thinking it's my keyboard, but the last keyboard I "cleaned" doesn't work anymore. Are there instructions online somewhere that I could follow so I don't kill another keyboard (or maybe even tell me how to resurrect the old one)?---->
Are they USB or ADB based? Simply put, do they have a round or rectangle connector on the ends?
If they are ADB, I'd recommend getting a $20 USB card and a cheap USB mouse/keyboard set. All could be had for less than $50 and a little elbow grease. OS X should support the card, as I've yet to come across one it didn't like.
If they're ADB devices and *both* seem to be failing around the same time, it could be anywhere from the keyboard to the ADB port on the computer. The easiest way to troubleshoot is to get a new keyboard (around $20 on ebay or ask around here) and see if that fixes it, as your mouse plugs into the keyboard, and may be dying there. If that doesn't fix it, it may be the ADB port going south. If this is the case, the first solution would be the most cost effective and viable, plus giving you the added benefit of USB on your Beige.
The problems may be more far reaching than that, but it's a decent start.
