That was me saying I have used it on my g3 266 on OS 8.6
re 1. I took the front cover off the cd space on the box. It left an ugly gap, buy it meant it would open and close ok.
2. I cant remember if there was a driver I needed, but it did burn with Toast 5.1, audio and data. But I do recall looking at both the Roxio and HP sites for drivers.
I have just moved on to a G4 and have been playing with the G3 so cant get it back to what I had, as I have reformatted the harddrive.
BTW We are talking about the 8100 PLus (HP C4392-5600)? David

Just monted a HP CD-RW 8100 in my Beige running 9.2.2 and while the thing works nicely as a CD drive I'm suffering two irritating problems.
1st: I had to remove the "CD front" part of the casing to stop the drive from opening and closing by it self every other minute. Unless I�ve been in invaded by poltergiests this seem like a mechanical problem with the eject button. Does anyone has any clever advice on how to avoid this?
2nd: The System Info bluntly states that burning CD's is "not supported" for this drive. Yet someone on this list said he unsed on of these drives a week back. What can be wrong?
