 Doug,

Had the same problem awhile back with one of my daughters Beige Towers after
an attempted OS X install. Thought I totally killed it.

I removed the battery and and power cable and let it sit for 2 days.

Re-installed the battery, reset the CUDA switch, re-connected the power
cable and "booted with PRAM reset ( Apple-Option-P-R at start-up, at least 4
chimes ) . Booted up fine, like nothing ever happened ( except the clock
reset).

Apparently, the Beige boxes have very sensitive
