Hi Joel et al., > From: joel wheeler <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: USB2.0 card on Beige G3? In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
A complete reinstall? That's an interesting thought for me....... I haven't done that before and was thinking of doing it with my G3. I'm wanting to take the USB 1 from my IBM PC and place it in the Mac Desktop and use the USB 2 I had originally purchased for the G3 in the PC. I may also install the Wings card in my G3 at the same time. I have a bootable 9.1 CD to use. How would I wipe the HD in the G3 and install the 9.1? Is there a good tutorial site that could guide me thru it? Is it something that could be simply explained here? Here's my 2: A complete reinstall is useless. The installer doesn't see the USB or FireWire-cards on beige G3s so normally it skips on the nessessary extensions. You'll have to click "Special" and check the USB and FireWire support manually, then everything is hunky-dory, at least if your card is compliant with "Open Hosting"-somesuch and you won't need any drivers from the manufacturer of the card ... I think you can start the reinstall of OS 9.2.1 and then in Special-mode only click the USB and FireWire-support, after that run the 9.2.2 updater. Of course you can do a complete reinstall but you'll need to create a new System Folder and HAVE to do the Special install and check USB and FW manually. Success!
