Hard Disk Icons Moving

The icons that represent mounted volumes (usually hard disks) have 
started moving themselves.  My mac's run all the time and sometimes I 
have noticed that they change positions during the night or when I 
reboot.  Is my desktop haunted?  By the way, I do keep several folders 
and items on my desktop.
