I have been having similar issues with a Quicksilver 2002. Try replacing the battery. That seems to have fixed my problems so far (going on day two without shutdowns).

  I have a dual G4 450mhz Mac running OS9 with 1 gig of Ram. I recently
installed a Sonnet ATA 133 (bios 4.5) card with 2 hard drives (1 80 gig
Maxtor and 1 80 gig Seagate drive). Each device is connected to the 2 IDE
ports on the Sonnet card individually. Since installing the Sonnet ATA card
and the two new drives, I have been receiving Random crashes and freezes
with the computer. I've tried everything to try and solve this problem, but
the problem continues to persist.

Every time I boot the system up after a crash, I notice that there is a
rescued items folder in the trash with a lot of cache and temp files from
various program (Internet Explorer, Quark Express, Entourage...)
Since Noticing that the cache and temp files would end up in the trash after
a crash, I thought the problem was memory based, and tried removing ram and
replacing it to no avail.

I've tried different bios on the Sonnet card to no avail. I've Tried
playing with the jumpers on the hard disk drives, zapping the cuda switch,
wiping my hard drives clean and installing a new operating system,
rebuilding the desktop, zapping the PRAM, changing IDE cables... Nothing
seems to work. I'm at a hopeless crossroads with the machine now. I even
removed the battery to reset the system.

I was wondering if anyone on this list ever heard of or experienced
problems of a similar nature with a G4 and a Sonnet card. Someone suggested
upgrading to OSX to solve the problem, but since this is a work computer,
it's not available as an option to me. Does anyone have any suggestions?
