sounds like it might be a heat problem. after it crashes, open the case and see how warm the drives feel. you may need another case fan, also check that all of the fans already there are running and not too dusty (the dust slows down the air flow) and that the machine isn't too dusty as well, since dust acts as a blanket and aggravates any heat problems. also, run all your' drive repair utilities, if it's crashed several times the drives are probably corrupted, and that alone can cause crashing and other problems, especially if VM is on or if you're running X which always swaps.
