I have a Beige MT which has only 66 mhz bus. I use an ATA 133 card with 37200
mhz drives, (and ione more on the motherboard bus, which is useless for video)
though I am led to understand that with the bus speed limitation, the drive
performance is near what I'd get with an ATA 100. You can probably assume that
your system is faster and has wider bandwidth than mine.

But I've never had a problem with audio stutter in video played back through the
firewire port to the camera, using iMovie or Final Cut. I have had lots of
problems with dropped frames and other issues. For a while I thought it was
necessary to defragment the drive I used solely for video storage. But then I
realized that there was intermittace in the firewire output. I tried a few
different combination cards (which I must use since all my pci slots are full.)
That didn't seem to help, so I put a couple of extra fans in the machine, one of
which blows directly on the pci cards. (The MT tower is designed for adding
fans there.) This seemed to solve the problem. I no longer bother to keep a
drive just for video storage or editing, nor do I defrag anymore.

That said, I should tell you that I never output to video tape anymore. It is
inexpensive and wonderful to burn DVDs. There is never any stutter or frame
dropping when your end medium is DVD, and if you need video tape you can tape
from the DVD.

However, when editing video, it is often a good idea to view your work on a
video monitor rather than on the computer screen, to assure your colors and
contrast is right. iMOvie and Final Cut will output video to the firewireport
as you edit for this purpose. I use my camcorder to convert digital to analog
and send it to the video monitor (Canon Zr40) then to the video monitor. I
seldom see dropped frames anymore, and the audio is fine too.

It doesn't matter where you keep the iMovie app, by the way.

Maybe more than you need to know, but I hope this helps.
