10.2.6 will recognize it immediately. 9.2 you may have to do a custom re-install, as the drivers aren't loaded on a system with no USB card. The custom re-install is easy, just start the installation process and click on customize all the way down to the USB support. I had to do this with a system I added a firewire card to, too. Prior to 9.1 there was a USB card support file you could get from Apple's downloads.
