Probably a dumb question, but how does one know which of the faster G4
mini-tower Macs can boot into some form of OS 9. I want a G4 machine
that will handle Panther, but which will boot in OS 9 to get the most
use out of some earlier applications and SCSI external hardware. The
new 1.24MHz G4s that Apple is offering now says they will boot in OS 9
but some slower MHz G4s say that the aren't bootable in OS 9. I realize
that the G5s cannot boot in OS 9, and I don't believe they even accept
OS 9.2.2 in "classic mode". Any suggestions or experience in this area
appreciated
All Power Mac towers up to the FW800 MDD's. Those were OSX only. Plus, as you already discovered they still offer a new MDD G4 with dual boot capability. Just for reference check out MacTracker http://www.mactracker.ca/ It's free and covers what OS's shipped with every Mac and what they are capable of using. A great site and application if you are working with older Mac's and need to know about expansion, bus speeds, ports etc..
