IMO, don't buy Norton et al ever. Instead, buy Retrospect Express (or some other high-quality backup utility).
Does retrospect allow you to create backups that you can then mount and view the contents like any other mac volume?
It has a Duplicate function, if that's what you mean. Creates bootable backups.
For multi-volume backups, it writes in its own format (which includes error correction data) but gives you a perusable catalog.
