I have a UMAX Astra 610S flatbed scanner that worked fine when connected to the built-in SCSI port on my Beige G3 in OS 9.2. And it still works fine when connected to my Powerbook 1400c running OS 8.6. But now my Beige G3 is running OS X 10.2.8, and Apple System Profiler (ASP) does not recognize the scanner when it is connected to the built-in SCSI--even when it is the only thing connected to that bus, terminated or not terminated.

The Beige G3 has an ultraSCSI PCI card installed, with my boot drive connected to the internal port. If I connect the scanner to the external ultraSCSI port, ASP shows it as eight (8) distinct "IOSCSIParallelDevice" modules with SCSI LUN = 0,1,2,...7.

I have installed VueScan 7.6.8 to manage this scanner and an old Nikon film scanner, because neither UMAX nor Nikon make OS X drivers for these models. The Nikon shows up ok in the "Scan From" list, but the UMAX appears twice. One UMAX setting scans ok, but the other produces garbage.

I would like to know why the scanner shows up eight times in ASP, and if I should be worried about it. I would also like to know how to get rid of the second UMAX setting in VueScan.
