G-3 beige DT original, with Daystar G-4 ZIF, CR/RW, 120G Maxtor, USB/Firewire Card..
Recently purchased iMac Bondi, not yet in general use.
Unless I start up from a CD by depressing "C", I cannot get a cd icon to appear on the desktop. This has been a problem from day 1.
It is urgent for me to send some jpg's I took with my Digital Camera. I have previously viewed photos via a USB Reader. I attempted to do that last night, but the computer needed the CD which accompanied the Card Reader. I could not do that as although the CD was in the tray, no icon appeared. I/we (grandson) heard the CD drive spinning, but no action on the desktop.
Friend suggested connecting the iMac via ethernet to my G-3/4 and transferring the jpg's across. We were not successful in getting the two computers to talk with each other.
My original computer told me the connection for Yahoo was lost. I was talking with friend in Australia via IM, he is a Mac user, far more literate than I. When he was here a short time ago, he hooked up his Mac lap top to my system, and we both had major problems. Only Disk Warrior resolved the computer freezes.
I loaded DW into the CD tray and restarted holding down the "C" as above. DW did load and when I tried to move my cursor, nothing. I upended it and noticed, no red light! My $50. brand new Apple Optical Mouse. Tried with the iMac optical mouse, and it too did not respond. Attached my mouse to the iMac, and yes it worked.
Big question, why is my USB no longer powering my mouse? What in hades happened? What shall I do?
I am getting this list in Digest form, please respond directly, I need to get on top of this ASAP.
Thanks,
Terrie
