OT? Monitor problem

I have a G4 AGP connected to some no-name 17" color monitor (it's 
called CTX color monitor).  Today, for no apparent reason it has become 
much darker than before--almost unusable.  I tried adjusting the 
controls on the monitor itself, no help.

I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem--it doesn't matter whether I'm 
in X (10.2.8) or Classic, or restart in 9.2.  I tried reseating the AGP 
card--no help.

Any ideas, or am I in the market for a new monitor?
