Thank you for the suggestions. Sorry I did not make it clear. I am using the Apple Extended Keyboard, and connected the Apple Optical Mouse via USB. Both showed active at the same time.
I put the trackball aside as it is flaky, tends to delete two consecutive messages rather than one. If I don't notice what the next message will be, I lose it.
I was having no problems at all until trying to send a file over machine to machine. That is when the red light went out on the USB mouse and I was stuck.
I did put the trackball back in, and am trying to get the USB mouse working again. The problem with the CD icon not appearing on the desktop is not a new one. I mentioned it on the IOMUG board this morning and have been trying to work things out from those suggestions.
I did discover I do not see the CD on the Apple System Profiler ??? I also found that in the Extensions, there is no "High Sierra Access" listed. Sherlock could not find it anywhere in my system.
Question now is, could that be the single reason for no CD icon and not showing up in ASP?
I switched this list and IOMUG to digest. I am drowning in spam, and the digest allows me to separate the chaff out of the wonderful wheat. Brain nutrition. Little by little, i am learning more than I knew just a short time ago.
Still would prefer to have the Knight on the White Charger rescue me, but I do not hear hoof beats, so I am stuck with me.
Please let me know just how urgent High Sierra Access is in the scheme of things. I am really afraid of trying to reload OS 9 and custom install this one file?? In truth, scared is a very mild word for where I find myself.
Thanks again,
Terrie
