I got an adapter for parallel to serial and shtuck the 120 GB Western Digital drive into the lower bay of my G5 below the stock 250 GB Maxtor drive. Now this MAY be an adapter issue, but I am having major crashing problems transferring files to this drive. Three times I have lost the partition and had to pull the drive and move it to my G4 that has DiskWarrior on it and repair it. (Don't have the Panther upgrade yet....) The last time I even erased everything, wrote zeros, and repartitioned hoping for a clean start... :P No go.
What it does is it screws up the finder when transferring files so much that I have to manually shut it down. It won't even relaunch. Has happened prolly about 6 times so far.... Funny, tho... never happened before the 10.3.3 update.....
I know, I know.... go buy a serial drive.... :P
Suggestions other than that? Seems like a finder issue somehow. Was fine on 10.3.2.
Stinks of a hardware issue to me. If the drive works fine elsewhere and the G5 is ok with the SATA drive in it then the adapter is easily the weakest link for me. Updating to 10.3.3 may just have unearthed something that showed up the problem.
SATA drives are coming down in price rapidly, so I'd just grab another 120GB SATA drive if you can.
