I recently upgraded my B&W G3/350 (rev.2) from OS 8.6 to 9.2.2. However, since making the shift, I have noticed a signficant decrease in the speed of the machine, and it is particularly slow when I'm writing e-mail or surfing the internet (I use Netscape 4.75). Despite using a 56k dial-up modem, it was quite fast in 8.6; now it is really lagging in 9.2.2. even tho it connects at 52,000 baud.
I currently have 448 Mb RAM and am wondering if I need to bump up the memory to help boost the speed? I tried turning off Virtual Memory but that hasn't helped either. Is this a common problem to the G3 systems? Any thoughts or suggestions on how I can remedy this without investing huge amounts of money in processor upgrades? The next machine I get in the next 18 months will likely be a G5 so investing a lot of money into upgrading the G3 processor doesn't make a lot of sense.
