It doesn't matter what the version on the CD is, because even version 2.1 can fix drives with OS 9 and OS X on the HD, used it last week on an older G4 here with HD problems. Also try disk utility or disk first aid if you have that on a bootable medium. I f.e. have imaged my DW CD and added disk first aid and some others, than burned it, that way I can use 'm all when booted from that CD. Also have you tried zapping the PRAM by holding down COMMAND-ALT-P-R at boot? Hold it untill you've heard three chimes, then release it.
