Or, an older ROM in a newer motherboard.

The Rev. 1 motherboard differs from the Rev. 2 and Rev. 3 motherboards
mainly in the Rage Pro video chip in the 2 and 3.

The Rev. A ROM differs from the Rev. B and Rev. C ROMs mainly in the
Slave support in the B and C.

The Rev. C ROM fixes problems with the on-motherboard video in the Rev. 2
motherboard and its associated Rev. B ROM, but there were some
incompatibilities introduced, which can be corrected by installing a Rev.
B ROM on a Rev. 3 motherboard.

Other reasons for downgrading include the Slave support being
unnecessary, as on, say, a server, so a Rev. 3A machine (Rev. 3
motherboard, Rev. A ROM) makes sense in this case.
