--- You wrote: I edited my movie in iMovie 3 and saved the project. Then, I exported it to iDVD and waited a few moments while iDVD launched. Since it was a short (25 min) movie I did not "Add Chapters". I then went to the menu bar to open File and the "Burn DVD" is gray, not black. What did I do wrong????? BTW I looked for the Burn DVD extension and it is my OS 9 System Folder Extensions. --- end of quote --- Do you know if iDVD actually loaded your video? If it did, you should see some kind of icon for it in the iDVD window, depending on what kind of "theme" you have loaded in iDVD. If you are not sure, click on the Customize icon at the bottom left of the iDVD window. A pane will open to the left. At the top of the pane, click on Status. If your movie doesn't appear under Asset, you haven't loaded it into iDVD.
It is possible when you went to the burn command in File, you just did it too soon. Maybe the video didin't finish loading in iDVD. You can drag a file to the iDVD window to load it, or use the Edit/Import/video menu item to load a video file into iDVD. It won't load if it isn't the right kind of video file. Make sure the file you export from iMovie is correct for iDVD. Occasionally it doesn't work to drag a file and you have to do it a couple of times before it loads correctly in the program. If you have sucessfully loaded a video file, the thing should burn. The burn command should not be ghosted. Don't even think about a Burn extension in os 9. It has nothing to do with it. It would be a good idea to browse the Help files for iDVD. They really do explain how the program works. It's not that difficult. IDVD is a very cooperative program. It works on compressing files in the background and doesn't take over a lot of processor time from other programs that are in the foreground. If the computer isn't doing anything else, you might not even know the program is at work on your video. I use a free utilty called MenuMeters that puts a bunch of information about what the computer is doing right in the menu bar in real time. Currently, with iDVD running behind my email program, but without a video loaded in it, MenuMeters tells me that the processor is running at 73% and there is a disk read going on. I find this is great information to have while iDVD is running. It assures me that the computer is actually doing work. Go to it Dan. It's easier than you think.
