Disk First Aid says everything is ok?

Is your Shutdown Items folder empty?

Does the problem occur if you boot with no 3rd party extensions loaded? With extensions off?

Do you have MacsBug installed?


Another possibility is that every nite around midnite it wants to index the
drives? I have not allowed it to do so. Might that be a factor, and if so,
can I change that to a more convenient time for me?

Sherlock. ptoi. It causes a lot of hangs and other problems. If you don't use its file-contents searching capabilities, just shut it off. If you do use them, consider using File Buddy's instead.
