Hi All...
I am new to this list, so pardon the questions if it's already been answered.
I have upgrade an old G3 DT for my mother, and recently got a copy of Panther and an OWC G4/533 for this machine.
I've got everything running fine under OSX.2.8, but when I try to install
the Panther upgrade, it says that the machine is not supported. Logic then
demands I try XPostFacto.....
Well, here's my trouble. The machine boots to the grey screen, but then I
get a circle with a line through it, then it just sits there, looking kinda
sad.
Reboot, add verbose mode and extra diagnostics via XPF, but still same result. Will Panther run on this machine?
Help!
Thanks... Mike
I ran into the very same problem. I had to pull all my 3rd party cards and use the built in video. You also have to check the "Use Old Ndrv" option in the XPF options menu. After about a week of having it on the machine, I had to reinitialize the drive and install Jag. Jag runs great on these old beige machines, especially with a Radeon handling the quartz extreme video. First gen G4's are getting cheaper every day. ;-)
