Tim and all:
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not in a
position to keep buying new machines. #1: I've
invested a fair amount of time and money in the
software and peripherals I have; #2: I happen to enjoy
tweaking "legacy" equipment and #3: I just don't have
a couple thou laying around in a cookie jar marked
"Replacement Computer and Software for when Apple
Obsoletes My Equipment."
I finally bought a G3 BW when I realizd that further
upgrades to my beige minitower were no longer
reasonable. And you know? I'm liking it. I'm slowly
making system upgrades, and since joining this group
I've actually found a use for an old 7500 that was
just gathering dust.
As for the floppy drive issue, if Apple decides to
discontinue including floppy drives with its CPUs,
cool. Btwn USB pen drives and CDs I use them maybe
twice a year. However, in deference to those users who
live and work in the real world where people still use
486s, the computer lab still runs Sys 7.5 on a couple
of Mac LCs in the corner and the occasional
WordPerfect DOS document comes their way, the option
of
continuing to use an internal floppy drive should have
ultimately been left to the user - not automatically
disabled with the latest software revision.

Following the thread, 'No floppy in Jaguar', I see
that many of you do
not feel that same and actually bash Apple for not
supporting the
floppy. You all sound like a bunch of DOS users
complaining about
Windows. The future is now! Save your pennies and buy
a modern Mac.
