One problem (could be a showstopper for some) is that USB floppy drives don't read or write 800K floppies. If you're swapping data with an Apple II (without a SuperDrive controller, BlueDisk, or other high-density floppy controller) or a really old Mac, a USB floppy drive will do bugger-all for you. There is a driver for the SWIM3 floppy controller available (have a look at http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/8210 for more info), but I've not had much luck getting it working on my beige G3. (FWIW, I have my IIGS connected to the network through a GatorBox CS. With that, it'll talk to either netatalk on my Linux server or the built-in AppleTalk support on my G3 or my Quadra 610. For that matter, since the floppy drive in the Quadra works just fine with disks in all formats, not having the drive in the G3 working is even less critical. Still, it'd be nice to have it working, even if only to say that the damn thing works. :-) ) _/_ / v \ Scott Alfter (IIGS( http://alfter.us/ Top-posting! \_^_/ rm -rf /bin/laden >What's the most annoying thing on Usenet? -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
