Hi Ben,

Sounds like a hardware problem (drive, cable, controller, etc...). I've swapped drives around among my Macs and peecees without a problem.
I have a 60Gb Maxtor, originally from a w2k server box in my B&W (Jaguar 10.2.8), a WD 6.4Gb from a w98 machine in one of my 6400/200's (OS 8.6) and a couple of small Apple branded drives in a old compaq game box.
In each case the machines were able to see and initialize/format the "alien" drives.

I have a 40GB Western Digital WD400 hd that was i;n a Wintel XP box. I would
like to put it into my Beige G3/300/256/4GB/USB/OSX10.5.1. When I put it in,
it would not mount at all. It was not in the ASP or on the desktop. Someone
told me I would need to make it " Apple Romed?" (don't know what that is).
Does anyone know if this is correct and how to do it??? Thanx! ~ Ben ~
