I booted in Panther on my Beige, then turned on my Epson and Polaroid scanners,I don't think my problem has anything to do with Vuescan as I think it mentioned there that in order for the program to work the scanner had to be visable in system pref. The lights on mine go out long before OSX is done booting so I knew Vuescan would not see it. Now my old Syquest 270 Mb cart drive works just fine with it. Very odd.
both scsi. The latest version of Vuescan for X couldn't see them. I left the
scanners on and restarted Panther. Vuescan now sees the Epson, just as I'd
remembered, and it worked fine.
I don't know why the Polaroid film scanner isn't connecting, but I remember it was weird in os 9 too. It's not something I use very often and I don't have time to track it down. Sometimes changing the scsi ID helps on some scanners.
OS X is funky in scsi support. It won't see any scsi device that it didn't detect at boot time. OS 9 will see drives or scanners that were turned on after boot, though you might need to use a utility (MtEverything is my favorite) to get them up. Why can't someone write such a utility for X...I'm sure Unix has the ability to rescan the scsi bus.
Meanwhile, try rebooting with the scanner turned on, if you haven't already.
And check with Ed Hamrick if it still doesn't work.
