try trashing the file sharing preferences on both machines, and possibly the finder
preferences (which are often the root of odd problems when corrupted, which seems to
happen sometimes).  both will be replaced with new, correct versions when you reboot 
the
machine and try to set up file sharing again.  preferences do get corrupted, whenever
having problems with part of the os deleting the relevant preferences is a good thing 
to
try (other than things like open transport and other things with passwords and other
information that's a pain to find, though sometimes you just have to bite the bullet 
and
delete preferences anyway and then set things up again).
