Can only echo your sentiments re Yellow Dog, as I found it easier to
install, with more apps that worked than most PC distros, Mandrake Linux
being bloatusware loaded with buggy/experimental apps that needed more
time developing before being bundled. Hope this should encourage you a
bit more Jon.

Best Regards
Pete

Hi Jon

Personally I've had EXCELLENT results with YellowDog Linux, its based on

Red Hat but the Sirius Distro is free and the iso's are freely
downloadable from their servers.

The only thing is, the current kernal won't install properly on a achine

that has run 10.2.8 due to a firmware update in that system. You would
need to download a new kernal and install it. Procedures for this are
detailed on yellowdogs site, although not for the faint hearted. I was
an absolute linux beginner, and yellowdog helped me to learn an awful
lot.

Before Yellowdog I tried the PPC distro of Mandrake but could never get
it to work properly, probably my ineptitude more than anything else.

Hope this helps.
