I am thinking of getting an old beige G3 and using it as a server with four 120GB harddisks. I am hoping to do this by using the second IDE bus that is normally used for the CD-ROM and optional ZIP drive.
Is this possible ?

It will work...... Just make sure it's a revision B or later ROM. Rev. A has no support for the 2nd hard drive (slave) on the IDE bus. Or you can add ATA card.
