yes, a scsi chain will be limited by the slowest device, hence the several macs that had multiple scsi controllers (i'm using a 9500, cdrom drive goes on one controller and hard drives on the other so as not to slow down hard drives). also, make sure it's really 2 channels and not just an internal and external connector for the same channel. i'm not familiar with the 2906 so i can't say for sure but i know the 2930 is all one channel. of course just turning the scanner off will stop it from slowing things down and is a lot better than unplugging it since it saves trouble and wear on the connectors etc. (i think you could even turn it off after using it without rebooting and get the speed back, but i'm not sure).
