Hi listers;
I have a problem making the cd-rom in my Dad's Mac work.
The machine is a G3/300 running 9.2.2, with a Zip and a cd-rom on the same ATA-bus. The cd-rom is master.
It started with the cd drive not reading cds. As it apparantly did not spin the discs up, I assumed the drive was dead and my dad went out to buy another, a Lite-On MODEL LTN-527T, and installed it. The machine now refused to start.
To be precise, it loads the first extension (Ethernet) and does not get any further. We tried with the old drive, and the machine behaved the same.
We then disconnected the zip drive to see if that made a difference. With the new drive the machine did not start, it got no further than the grey screen. With the old drive it started, system profiler found the drive, but if a cd was inserted it asked of you wanted to format. With the cd drive disconnected it booted fine.
It should be added that I have not been present, my dad lives 2 hours away and I have tried to help him over the phone. The cd-drive worked earlier this year, I installed from it in April.
BTW, the machine has two HDs, and there is a system installed on both. The symptoms are the same no matter which hd you boot from.
Any suggestions?
It could be master/slave settings on the drives, or the cables got munged during the install. I suspect you're looking at a few hours drive time...
