You may want to reset the pram at boot-up also and that may work to get the video up.

Maybe it is not a boot problem but rather a monitor resolution problem. If the system is configured for a resolution unsupported by the monitor, the monitor goes dark and the green light turns amber. At least, that is what my monitor did once when I tried an unsupported resolution.
Sorry, don't remember specifics of how I recovered, but it seems I referred to monitor and display preferences documentation.

Greetings all,
I'm a newbie here.
Late last Fall I acquired a beige G3 (desktop) running OS 9.1 with 128 mg
ram.
It sat for quite awhile before I decided to play with it but ran fine at the
person's house that I bought it from.
The problem is that now I can't get any monitor to work with it.
It won't boot with (ancient) Apple Color High-Res RGB (model M0401). The
monitor light goes green for a second and then I hear two 'clicks' and then
nothing.
Will boot (chimes and all) with newer PC Monitor; however the screen stays
black in spite of green monitor light (which quickly turns amber).
I *think* maybe it needs a new video card but not sure what kind to ask for.
Something 'low end' would be fine as this is going to be an extra machine for
basic stuff like email, etc.
Am also wondering if perhaps it could be a problem with monitor drivers
instead?
This is the first time I've tried to boot this since I've got two other
working computers. This is also my first beige G3 and I'm not very tech-savvy so
sorry if this all sounds like a stupid question.
Thanks so much for any help.
