UPDATE:
I am able to boot up again.
I turned off the surge protector, unplugged the Mac (again), replugged the
Mac, turned on the surge protector again and booted this time from the keyboard.
 It worked.
My last question (I hope!) is --- where IS the restart button on this thing?
I mean, not the power button on the front - but is there some other doohickey
I can press or a keyhole type thing for a paperclip??
I'm used to old macs with rocker switches in the back or paperclip holes like
in my bondi Imac.
Thanks much,
Val
PS - on second thought I'm sure this won't be my last question ;)
