Well, this is a dual 1 gig G4 running 10.3.4. Since I started using Macs back in 2001, we've never had a virus or worm or phage or eosinophil. To be perfectly honest, I've never worried about that sort of thing since switching. AND, we do have the OS X firewalls running on our Macs, except on hers, I had to open ports 7648-7652 and 24032 (I did fail to mention that in my previous post). But even still, I refuse to adopt the PC-users paranoia regarding internet attacks.
And, since you seem to have a bit more knowledge on the subject, can you offer a better solution?

I just recently had experience with this issue. We have the iSight camera and are using a Netgear Modem. My wife was unable to chat using vchat (a program for OS X that is sort of like cu-seeme). I read some of the documentation on the router and on the product's web site (vchat that is) and I was directed to go to WAN Setup and set the default DMZ server to the local IP of her computer. She is currently assigned 192.168.0.3 as her IP. I did it and now it all works perfectly.
Mind you, I am NO EXPERT on any of this....I just followed directions and was pleasantly surprised when it actually worked.

I strongly advise *against* using DMZ unless you have a good firewall on the computer itself (it is evident you don't as that would also block VChat also). DMZ Stands for 'Demilitarized Zone' and basically opens all ports to that computer. If it's a Mac it's not *so* bad unless you are running FTP, SSH or Telnet out of OS X, but you do run the risk of unwanted attacks all the same. It's better to learn how to clear the required ports for VChat on the router's firewall. It should be possible if it's anything like a decent router.

For anyone's general information you should never DMZ a Windows machine - it's like putting a 50ft square sign on the roof saying "Hack my computer - it's open". FWIW Windows XP's built in firewall is still not a guarantee that you will keep intruders out, we all know about Windows and security flaws right?
