I already disabled the memory check. It still takes 5+ minutes. I haven't opened that many programs. Apple System Profiler the Extension manager took 5-7 seconds. By opening windows, I mean simply opening the hard drive into the list view, clicking on the triangle for the system folder, the folder for extensions etc. As I said before, I haven't had a lot of time to look into it and given that the machine died once before, I'm exercising some caution.
> More details, please: what programs are you using? What do you mean by 'opening windows'? Starting programs? Getting new windows in already open programs? Navigating the Finder? Are the slowdowns consistently in one program over another? Some programs seem to have problems with 1 gig of Ram. Make sure all your apps are as up-to-date as possible. The 5 minute startup is because you have the memory check on. With a Gig o' Ram that takes quite a while. Disable it by starting the Memory control panel with (IIRC) the option, or perhaps the option-command keys down. They you get the normally hidden checkbox to turn off the startup memory check. > -- > G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> > and... > > Small Dog Electronics http://www.smalldog.com | > Refurbished Drives | > -- We have Apple Refurbished Monitors in stock! | > & CDRWs on Sale! | > > Support Low End Mac > <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> > > G-List list info: > <http://lowendmac.com/lists/g-list.shtml> > --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" > Send list messages to: > <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To unsubscribe, email: > <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > For digest mode, email: > <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subscription questions: > <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Archive: > <http://www.mail-archive.com/g-list%40mail.maclaunch.com/> > > Using a Mac?
