It's a SOT failure (stupid operator trick) It is not easy, the connectors are well designed and polarized. It can happen. I have seen a USB connector plugged in upside down and that is supposed to be completely impossible. The designers just never reckoned with a cheaply made peecee port and the determination, including tool use, by a human to "make it fit !!#**&%! damn it".
i'd like to use firewire, what does one (even a highly skilled user) need to be aware of? thanks.
No reason you shouldn't. It's great technology. You cannot easily connect it wrong.
