I may be completely reinventing the wheel at this very moment ... but ... has anyone used S-Video cables as ADB extenders? When I accidentally plugged my keyboard in my A/V card's S-Video input the other day I thought that it just might work. I experimented last night with an ADB keyboard connected to my Beige G3 via S-Video cable and it worked just fine. Do anyone know if there is any wiring differences? I ask this because I am looking at an ADB KVM and don't know where I can easily pick up the ADB extender cables. S-Video cables are a different matter ... I can get those at Wal-Mart or RadioShack. Thanks for the input!
Yes ADB works just fine with S-Video. The reverse isn't necessarily true however.
I don't recommend using an ADB KVM. ADB wasn't designed for hot plugging. There is some chance for damage, even with a T-switch. And switching it back and forth WILL mess up things in software. I don't recall what happens with the keyboard but the mouse tends to slow down.
