Eric,
This is based on some experience with a LaserWriter 4/600 PS, some research, and some speculation ... grain of salt required ...

EXPERIENCE: Since my LW 4/600 PS uses a LocalTalk (not serial) connection I can use a utility called LaserWriter bridge to create a virtual tunnel from my OS 9 computer's ethernet to the printer port. By running AppleTalk on my OS X machine I can see the printer, add it and print to it.

RESEARCH: OS X (10.3.4) only has drivers for a LW Select 360. I assume this is because it is the only printer in the LW Select line that supports both LocalTalk and PostScript.

SPECULATION: I think that LaserWriter bridge running on a OS 9 machine could make a LW Select 360 availble to your OS X machine providing you run AppleTalk on the OS X machine. Alternatively, you might try a bridge device like the Farallon iPrint LT (not SL; LT = LocalTalk; SL = serial). I have no experience with these units, but if I read correctly they can make a serial printer accessible via AppleTalk. A LWS 360 could use an iPrint LT to become a networked printer.

Hope this helps!

I have a LW Select (with a 3/4 full cartridge) sitting here unused because I understand that I can't use a serial printer with OS X.

I'm now using my B&W all the time but I was wondering if I could use the LW if I networked a Beige running 9.2.2 with the B&W.

Is there an option to share a printer in 9.2.2?

Thanks for any advice,
Eric in Phoenix
