Well, AIM and ICQ can talk to each other 'cos I believe they're both
owned by AOL (somebody correct me here if I'm wrong). And I use iChat
with an AIM account, so depending on whether I'm on OS X or not I use
iChat or AIM 4.3.

For work I use MSN Messenger (v4 for OS X, v2.5.1 for OS 9.2.2).
Microsoft kindly "upgraded" their server(s), or something, a couple of
weeks ago and nobody could log in with the latest v2.5. About a week
later they released v2.5.1 but didn't put any notification on the
Mactopia site for a while (until I asked them to). I hope this was just a
mess-up, but I fear that the OS 9.2.2 version is near the bottom of the
priority list nowadays.

I've never tried the all-in-one clients because I'm always worried that
AOL or Microsoft will "upgrade" their services and break them.
