keep in mind that this can take a long time if you have a lot of files. also, if there are certain problems with the drive it can fail. i'd run disk firstaid first, as it fixes some problems that diskwarrior and norton both miss, and then norton if you have a copy available to you, as it can also handle a few problems that diskwarrior will choke on (though they are rare). disk first aid however definitely does fix a number of things that disk warrior will not fix or detect. also make sure that your machine isn't using that partition for virtual memory as i've had this cause that problem (you can always turn vm off temporarily if you have to).
