You'll need to use that 50 pin adapter or buy a SCSI card. OtherWorldComputing
has an Adaptec 2906 for $54
<http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=1482&Item=ADP1772900>
, but it is not bootable. Most of your cheap ones aren't going to be.

They do have an Adaptec 2930 for $95 that IS bootable.

<disclaimer>Plese note that I don't work for OWC, I'm just a happy customer and
they are the first place I go to look for anything. Yes, you might find them
cheaper elsewere. Personally, I don't look around because I'm happy with them
and they are usually very reasonable, so to me it's worth a little extra money.
Except RAM. Damn, it's hard to find anyone cheaper than they are!</disclaimer>

All Beige G3 do have on board SCSI 2 If you look at where the two IDE sockets
are at the upper right (or top left if it's a tower) you'll see a third socket
that is a larger 50 pin. That's your SCSI port. Be warned, it's slow, maxing out
at 10/MBs.

You can install a CD-RW without issue, but see below.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust what the OSX ASP app says. It LIES! All the time.
Kinda like saying Windows XP will run with only 128MB RAM... Yeah, right. You
can install multiple ATA drives, you just can't have more than two drives total
(including CD or whatever) and you can only have one per cable. Fortunantly, you
can simply swap out the ROM chip with a rev 2 or 3. Post to the Swap list, I'm
sure somebody has a spare one they can sell you.
