If you want partitions, you obviously must do a clean install.

My new Al-Book does not support os9 ! So it tries to force me to put classic in the same place as OSX. However, I will have none of that because I keep my OS9 folder separate and on a separate partition because it has tons of legacy stuff (including Quickdex vintage 1987--no kidding it works fast daily) and my file organization structure. My "Niner" disk looks alot like my disk drive did ten years ago.

I used to use 3 partitions as a rule, with a 4th if I had virtual PC, but now I would say that you should keep the partition number down. This is because OSX is now becoming a hog. It needs disk space for virtual memory, it needs 2 gigs just for the basic garage band files (yeah, I left them on and I'm going to add more--I need it for work) and anytime you start to mess with dvd files, it want to create massive files on the system drive ONLY.

If I had 160 Gigs and were not using Virtual PC (maybe give it a separate partition, maybe not?) I would put all my old OS9 and text files and so forth on a 20 Gig partition and the rest on the home partition.

but if I had a G5-- I would also go out and buy a cheap 180-250Gig drive and put it in an external box for backup and for holding all of those media files you are going to get. With that drive for backup, maybe the partitioning would be a waste of time.
