BUT, it is the System that messes things up...OS 7.6 is one of the
LAST system that will read them...I think OS 8.1 will as well, but
when you get to 9 those things are un-readable. :o(

System 7.5.5 is the last system that will read, write and format 400K floppies. 7.6 sees 400K floppies as half an 800K floppy and will read it, but will not format 400K floppies. OS 7.6 will write to 400K floppies, but will change the header info on the floppy resulting in the 400K floppy becoming unreadable in a 400K drive. 800k floppies are supported all the way up through OS 9. The USB floppy drives I have seen have only supported 1.4Meg format disks.
