Scripts, Cron etc. is all unexplored teritory to me, but I suppose when there is a need one has to explore... :o) ---Pinging once per second isn't bad in terms of your bandwidth use, but your ISP is more likely to catch on to what you're doing. They may assume that you're running a server of some sort which may be against the rules.
I think you have a very valid point there... :o)
