Hello G3 Listers,

I have a G3MT/400mhz/rom"B"/512 ram running 9.2.2 with fire wire card, usb
1.1 card and a Ahard ATA 100 card installed and 6mb/video ram. The problem I
have is that I installed OS 10.2 but had to revert back to 9.2.2 after
experiencing major problems with my second HD, a 160gb (but accessing only
128gb) 7200 rpm Maxtor IDE drive attached to the ATA card.

Now the 2nd HD drive vanishes from the desk top for days at a time. It is
listed in the System Profiler on the SCSI Bus 1 as 137gb ATA/capacity of
128gb with no volumes mounted. I've run Norton's Disc Doctor, Disc First Aid
and Hard Drive set up and the HD is not there. Then it will show up on a
later restart as a unrecognised or unreable drive that needs to be
initialized, after a screen with 12 lines of text saying "can not open"
appears.

Then a few days later it's gone. This time it's been gone a week. Any
ideas? On how to bring back this wayward drive? Should trash it or take it
out and mount it in an external USB case or change the card to ATA 133 card?

Thanks in advance,
S. lee
