Obsolete, meaning that at one time it was supported?

That's the obsolete chip, and is an indication that the motherboard is Rev. 1.
The machine ROM revision is $77D.40F2.
40F2 is the earliest ROM, Rev. A, and it goes with the Rev. 1 motherboard.
This machine will not support Slave drives.
In order to play DVDs, the best way is to get a Radeon 7000 and use its integral DVD decoder.
Get a Rev. B or C ROM to support Slaves.
