Other than that, I would like to have a couple more PCI slots in my B&W. The onboard IDE is 33MHz and I would like to install a SATA or 133MHz IDE controller. The Onboard Firewire Ports are problem-matic and require a PCI card. I picked up a Radeon 7000 for the Dual Monitor capability. SCSI Card, this is always a good idea, pee cee or mac. The USB ports are 1.0, a PCI card is required for 2.0 USB, OK, I will sell my FireWire Card and pick up a combo card. Airport/Wireless networking. Apple in their arrogance never made the B&W AirPort capable so suck up a another card for a IEEE 802.11/b/a/g wireless card. If you were keeping count you ran out of fingers a while ago. One Complaint or supporting argument depending how you read it is; Macs outlive the PeeCee by many years on average. People just don't have a good enough reason to replace them. Third party companies keep the processor and RAM in check. As the Mac ages we like to invest in newer technology to keep the Mac in tip top shape. It is very easy to run out of PCI slots if you continue to upgrade. It is very possible that Apple realizes this and intentionally does not install extra PCI slots to prevent continuous upgrades. One point to note about the "crippled" PCI slots of the B&W. THEY ARE 64 BIT!!! Ok no AGP and only 3 free PCI slots, but HEY, 64 BIT PCI slots on a computer that is 5 years old! Most PeeCees have not even given 64 Bit PCI slots a thought, let alone X-PCI. Apple Hardware is "interesting" some points may appear as crippled, but other points are way a head of the competition. The Beige G3 is a dead product. Don't get me wrong, still a very strong computer. The G5 Dual 2.5 Gig is a super server for the consumer. To get the functionality of a Intel machine that the G5 has would cost $10,000 to $20,000 dollars.
