My brother bought what he said was the last G4 Mac to dual boot into

Here's his response:

anywhere or download email. If I reboot and reconnect all is healed.

This "Slow death of the dial-up" is common, and actually all you need to do is disconnect and reconnect. I sometimes get it to work by turning my (external) modem on and off; not an option if you're using the internal modem. Most often it's got nothing to do wit either the modem, your Mac or the ISP but the connection; ie: it's the phone company's fault.

Someone posted a question very similar to this on the G-books list last week, and someone posted a link to a program that's supposed to help with this. Unfortunately the archives with the answer aren't posted yet. Anyone else remember the name of the program?

2. His HP printer isn't working in OS X. HP says that this printer
is supported natively in OS X, so I'm not sure why my brother says
he needs to install a driver - other than it not working. His networked
laser printer, however, works just fine... Any ideas?

I've had problems with some HP printers not working in OS X after printing in Classic. Try quitting Classic and then adding the printer.

Did he install the HP drivers when he installed OS X?

What version of OS X is he running? HP is likely talking about 10.2 offering native support...if he's still running 10.1, he'll have problems. 10.2 included a total overhaul of the printing system in OSX.
